Longitudinal electronic and nuclear spin diffusion in atomic hydrogen

چکیده
2014 The general results recently obtained for the Boltzmann collision term in a gas of atomic hydrogen are applied to the study of longitudinal spin diffusion in high magnetic fields. This phenomenon can be described as a diffusion of concentration in a four component reactive mixture (the reaction being here the electronic transfer between nuclei). A numerical discussion of all the coefficients of the diffusion matrix between 100 mK to 100 K is given in the text, together with a discussion of the nature of the hydrodynamic modes in such a situation. The variations of the diffusion coefficients with the internal state of the gas are important for temperatures lower than 500 mK or higher than 10 K, when the spin exchange process is not negligible compared to the direct process. Finally, the relative importance of these two processes determines the nature of the hydrodynamic modes in the system. J. Interaction of atomic hydrogen with monometallic Au(100), Cu(100), Pt(100) surfaces and surface of bimetallic Au@Cu(100), Au@Pt(100) overlayer systems: The role of magnetism
The spin-polarized calculations in generalized gradient approximation density–functional theory (GGA–DFT) have been used to show how the existence of second metals can modify the atomic hydrogen adsorption on Au (100), Cu (100), and Pt (100) surfaces. The computed adsorption energies for the atomic hydrogen adsorbed at the surface coverage of 0.125 ML (monolayer) for the monometallic Au (100), ...
متن کاملThe HERMES Polarized Hydrogen and Deuterium Gas Target in the HERA Electron Storage Ring
The HERMES hydrogen and deuterium nuclear-polarized gas targets have been in use since 1996 with the polarized electron beam of HERA at DESY to study the spin structure of the nucleon. Polarized atoms from a Stern-Gerlach Atomic Beam Source are injected into a storage cell internal to the HERA electron ring. Atoms diffusing from the center of the storage cell into a side tube are analyzed to de...
متن کاملNuclear Polarization of Molecular Hydrogen Recombined on a Non-metallic Surface
The nuclear polarization of H2 molecules formed by recombination of nuclear polarized H atoms on the surface of a storage cell initially coated with a silicon-based polymer has been measured by using the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry in deep-inelastic positron-proton scattering. The molecules are found to have a substantial nuclear polarization, which is evidence that initially polarized a...

At low temperature, the equation of motion' for the spin density m in nuclear polarized paramagnetic liquids (e.g. , liquid He, HeHe mixtures) and gases (e.g. , He, H i ) differs from the conventional Fick's law form Bm/t)t =D V' m of classical systems. In general, the equation becomes nonlinear and anisotropic and the transverse component has an oscillatory (wave) as well as a diffusive charac...
متن کاملParity Violation in Hydrogen and Longitudinal Atomic Beam Spin Echo I
We discuss the propagation of hydrogen atoms in static electric and magnetic fields in a longitudinal atomic beam spin echo (lABSE) apparatus. There the atoms acquire geometric (Berry) phases that exhibit a new manifestation of parity-(P-)violation in atomic physics. We provide analytical as well as numerical calculations of the behaviour of the metastable 2S states of hydrogen. The conditions ...
